For the front door

Front door mats that earn the threshold.

The front door is where every visit begins. A good front door mat catches the mud, sets the tone, and is designed to help reduce shifting through everyday foot traffic.

A front door mat does three jobs at once: it traps dirt before it reaches your floors, tells guests they're welcome, and uses a rubber backing designed to help reduce shifting. Whether you call it an outdoor mat for the front door, an entryway mat, or simply a welcome mat, the rules for picking one are the same. Here they are, without the fluff.

Size first, always

Most front doors are 36 inches wide, which makes 17×30 inches the natural fit — it covers the swing path without poking past the frame. A wider casing, a storm door, or a deeper stoop calls for 24×36. French or double doors want the 24×48. Get the size right and the door still closes; get it wrong and you'll be tripping over a curled edge all season.

Low profile beats thick every time

A mat around 0.4 inches thick slides under the door without catching — even with a storm or screen door in the mix. Thick, plush mats look cozy in the cart and useless at the threshold. Keep it low and the door keeps working.

Backing designed to help reduce shifting

Every PKFEDR mat uses a full rubber backing designed to help reduce shifting during everyday use. Actual grip varies with the floor material, moisture, debris, and maintenance; keep the surface beneath the mat clean and dry, and reposition it whenever it moves.
