Doormat size guide: 17×30, 24×36, 24×48

A simple doormat size guide for the three standard sizes. Match 17×30, 24×36, and 24×48 inch mats to your door, storm door, and porch.

The fastest way to ruin a new doormat is buying the wrong size. Too small and it looks lost; too big and the door won't close. Here's the plain-English size guide.

17×30 inches — the standard single door

This is the workhorse. It fits the vast majority of single front doors and slides under them without catching. If you're not sure, start here. See it on the Welcome Maple Leaves mat.

24×36 inches — wider doors and storm-door setups

Got a wider threshold, a storm door, or a double-step entry? The 24×36 gives more landing room for boots and looks balanced on a larger doorway. The Welcome Pumpkins mat wears this size well.

24×48 inches — double doors and big porches

French doors, double doors, or a sprawling farmhouse porch call for the 24×48. It's the generous welcome that fills a wide entry without looking skimpy.

A quick measuring rule

Measure the flat landing in front of the door, then leave at least two inches of clearance so the door swings freely. When in doubt, the 24×36 is the safe middle ground.

Thickness matters too

Aim for a low ~0.4″ profile. Anything taller risks catching the door — especially with a storm or screen door in the mix.
